Welcome to National Margarita Day! This unofficial holiday is reported to have been started by a group of bartenders. The date of origination is uncertain. However, the margarita was created in the 1930’s. All you need is tequila, triple sec and lime juice [over ice] for a celebratory drink. National Margarita Day is observed each year on February 22. How will you celebrate? Grab a group of friends and check out 4 ways to jumpstart your celebration.
National Margarita Day: It’s a Holiday!
Margaritas – Frozen or ‘On the Rocks’
A simple margarita has 3 basic ingredients. When ordering this cocktail at a restaurant or bar, the servers or bartenders often ask if you want your drink “frozen or on on the rocks.” This is a personal choice. However, frozen drinks tend to last a little longer as you have to drink them slower or…BRAIN FREEZE. I prefer the frozen version.
Fact: Frozen margaritas were invented in the 1970s when the first frozen margarita machine was introduced in 1971.
Flavors on Flavors on Flavors!
You can have the original margarita – lime flavored. However, why not try a different flavor? Popular flavors include strawberry, mango, and peach. Frozen fruit, puree, frozen mixes and concentrates are used to add flavor to the basic recipe. Many restaurants and bars are offering exotic and unusual varieties of margaritas; and if you chose to make the cocktails yourself, recipes are all over the internet for margaritas with a “twist.” For example:
