Pop Culture News Items – February 25
1…Kanye West is Launching His Own Cosmetics Brand
Kanye West is recently filed paperwork to start the cosmetics line, Donda, named after his mother who died almost 10 years ago. Not much is known about the brand at this time. You can read more from New York Magazine >>> HERE.
So, yeah, Kanye is being Kanye. However, he’s picked an interesting industry to delve into. With the K’s [Kardashians] being so active in the cosmetics, I find it interesting that he’s venturing into this industry. I admire the fact that he wants to honor his mom. I will watch to see what happens with the Donda brand. Would you buy Kanye cosmetics?
2…Beyoncé officially drops out of Coachella 2017.
Beyoncé has officially dropped out of performing at Coachella this year. Due to advice from her doctors relating to her pregnancy, she will not be headlining the music festival. She moved her performance to Coachella 2018. Read more details from ET Online >>> HERE.
No surprise here. Beyonce has to keep “dem babies” safe and sound. The whole world expected this to happen. Interesting fact: the ticket prices for Coachella 2017 have dropped and people are now making plans to attend in 2018 – fr,fr. I’m sure there are a few people who are low-key mad about this decision. The festivals organizers are quick to point out the other quality acts scheduled to appear this year. I’m positive the festival will be great. Next year, tho. It will be even better.
3…Simon Biles and Mr. T starring in Dancing with the Stars 24
ABC announced the premiere date and first two stars for Season 24. Gold Medal Olympic Gymnast Simon Biles and the 64-year-old actor Mr. T will be part of the new cast. Season 24 premieres March 20 on ABC. Read more details from ET Online >>> HERE.
I’m a fan of Dancing with the Stars. I usually watch every season. I’m excited to see Simone Biles join the cast. I pray that Mr. T will have a good showing. They always have older people in the cast. Sometimes they do a good job; other times…not so much. I will be watching the pop culture news items to see who else is joining the cast. Will you watch Dancing with the Stars Season 24?
4…Rihanna will receive this year’s Humanitarian Award from Harvard University
The singer/philanthropist/actress will accept the Peter J. Gomes Humanitarian Award from Harvard University. She is being honored for her work with charities in Barbados focusing on scholarship and health issues. Read more about the 2017 Harvard University Humanitarian Award >>> HERE.
Newsflash! I had no idea Rihanna was as charitable as she is. Since her work is being done in the Caribbean, the coverage isn’t extreme. I must admit that I was surprised at this selection…until I read the article. Were you aware of Rihanna’s humanitarian efforts?
5…Lion King remake adds Donald Glover and James Earl Jones.
The Lion King will be a live-action movie. Danny Glover joins the cast as Simba. James Earl Jones is reprising his role as Mufasa. You can read all the details on the live-action movie >>> HERE.
Yassss! The Lion King is being remade as a live-action movie. This is awesome. I’m a fan of the movie, and I’m excited that James Earl Jones will be part of the production. And, Danny Glover is one of the hottest actors in Hollywood right now, thanks to his show Atlanta. I’m sure this combination will be great in the live-action version. I can’t wait to see it. Are you a fan of The Lion King?
I hope you’re enjoying your weekend. I’m having a relaxing time with the family. I’m excited for the Academy Awards tomorrow night. Here are my picks for the top awards:
