Happy Saturday, peeps!
I’m back from my trip to Shreveport (LA) for a conference. I enjoyed the trip with dear sorority friends. It was great to see familiar faces and touch base with those whom I haven’t seen in years. It was a mini college reunion! Though I’ve been away, the crazy world of celebrity and entertainment news has not stopped giving us major pop culture moments. Did you follow the stories this week?

Pop Culture Moments

1…Jay-Z and the Weinstein Company to Produce a Feature Film and Docu-Series Based on Trayvon Martin

Variety

Almost five years after the death of Trayvon Martin, Jay-Z and the Weinstein Company are producing two projects based on the teen’s life. The indie film company will develop a feature film. Jay-Z is planning a documentary series based on published books. You can get more details from Variety >>> HERE.
These Trayvon Martin development projects were hotly contested by several production companies. Jay-Z and the Weinstein brothers won the deal. It will be interesting to see the final pieces. The Trayvon Martin case was much-debated when it was in the news in 2012 and 2013. I remember where I was when the verdict was announced. I’m happy to see that his story is being told and shared to the masses. Will you watch the Trayvon Martin film and series?

2…David Chappelle returns with two specials on Netflix

Netflix

Dave Chappelle released two of three Netflix Comedy Specials this week. Both are available now on Netflix. You can learn more about the comedy specials on Netflix >>> HERE.
The world smiled with bated breath when Dave Chappelle appeared on Saturday Night Live after the November election. He represented and served comedy “realness” in his monologue and skits. It was great to see him resurface after a long hiatus from the cameras. Shortly after that he announced his deal with Netflix. We have been waiting on THIS. I haven’t watched the specials, but I added them to my list to watch later. Have you viewed the Dave Chappelle Specials on Netflix? What did you think?

3…Senator Cory Booker asked Mindy Kaling to dinner on Twitter. She said yes.

Time

Senator Cory Booker and actress Mindy Kaling are flirting on Twitter. The couple are starting a great friendship for the world to see. Senator Booker playfully tweeted Kaling and called her out for an unfavorable view of Newark on a recent episode of The Mindy Project. You can read more about the budding romance in this article from Time >>> HERE.

Why am a I so happy for this development?! 😀❤️ I’ve been a fan of Cory Booker since his days as the Mayor of Newark. He seems like a good person…good and single. He’s been matched with a few women in recent years, including CBS This Morning co-host Gayle King. I’ve also been a fan of Mindy Kaling. I’m currently reading her book, Why Not Me?, and loving it. This pairing is what pop culture dreams are made of. Here’s hoping the dinner date happens and much, much more. 👍🏾 My eyes and ears are open for more news.

4…Mariah Carey is making a Christmas movies based on one of her songs.

The Huffington Post

Yes, Mariah Carey’s famous holiday tune, ‘All I Want For Christmas’ is being made into an animated movie. Mariah Carey made her film announcement on Twitter (see tweet below). The film is being released during the 2017 holiday season. Read more about the development on The Huffington Post >>> HERE.
This song has made millions for Mariah Carey. Why stop now? I actually think this animated movie will be good. I’m sure it will have its diva moments, and hopefully Mariah Carey will voice one of the characters. I’m sure it will be epic. Truth be told, what I would really like to see is the live-action version of this movie. Similar to The Wiz and the upcoming Bye, Bye, Bird live-action musical. Nonetheless, I can’t wait for this movie. All I Want for Christmas is one of my favorite holiday songs.

5…Gucci Mane is an author

Twitter

Gucci Mane, born Radric Delantic Davis, is one of hip-hop’s most notorious artists. He is credited with helping to pioneer Trap music, alongside fellow Atlanta-based rappers T.I. and Young Jeezy. Gucci Mane started penning his life story while in federal prison. Read more about The Autobiography of Gucci Mane and preorder >>> HERE.
I must admit, I am not a long-time Gucci Mane fan. But, I love a good book. This one looks to be a page-turner. It’s Gucci’s story in his own words. He’s been through a lot. From birth in Alabama to trap music in Atlanta to being locked down in a maximum-security FEDERAL prison in Indiana. His story could be interesting. I will check out the book. Will you?

I would love to read Gucci Mane’s life story. I love a good book as well, and to see it’s his life story should be very interesting. I’m always intrigued about the lives of rapper’s and their come up. Now, I don’t get too much into the reality TV’s shows, but a good book I can stand.

Everything was cool, until I read that Mariah was doing another movie. Honestly, movies just aren’t her gift. Also Dave Chappelle’s show needs sometime before I can give my honest opinion, right now its, just too early to tell.

I watched part 1 of Dave Chapelle’s stand up and it was really good. I love how he throws in a lot of thought provoking content in his material. Ya’ll can have Mariah…I’m too through with anything she does. Oh and the Cory Booker thing with Mindy is sweet. They seem like it could be a great match.

I am here for the doc on Trayvon Martin, I think it has great potential to be very well done. Mariah Carey, no thank you girl. The Mayor and Mindy, is a really cute story. I want to see how far this goes. I watched 1.5 of the Dave Chappelle stand up.
