This week was a bit tough. I’m coming to a few realizations that aren’t making me happy. I’ll deal with it. In other news, I was able to keep my promise of having coffee or a meal with two friends each week. I made this promise to myself at the beginning of the year to reconnect with people in real life. While I enjoy making new friends and associates online, I felt the need to concentrate on face-to-face interactions this year. I was able to have lunch with a former coworker, and I had coffee with a new friend that I met last fall. The weather was disrespectful again this week, but the temperatures warmed up yesterday and today.
Today I’m sharing a few things I love for the week. They include beauty items, TV shows and books. I hope you find a few nuggets of interest in this Friday Faves post.
Things I Love
Books: Lupita N’yongo is publishing a children’s book! Yassss, it’s another revenue stream (entrepreneurs always notice this). Her book will be based on the main character, Sulwe, growing up in Kenya. Expect it in early 2019. You can learn more >>> HERE.
Holiday: Martin Luther King, Jr. I attended two programs to celebrate and commemorate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I participated in a vigil on Sunday, January 14; and I attended an awards banquet on Monday, January 15 (the actual holiday). I love what this holiday means for many. It’s a sign of hope and opportunity. The keynote speaker at the banquet, Rev. R. Janae Pitts-Murdock shared three key points:
Tear up the new normal. We must not get complacent with the new normal in our country. We must make a commitment to do what is right.
Take up sacrifice. Materialism is the opioid that keeps oppressed people oppressed.
Speak up. Time’s up for being silent. Make your voice heard.
Her speech was informational, motivational and uplifting. She captured the attention of the audience of over 600 attendees. I am glad I was able to attend.
Black Panther Viewing Parties: The countdown is on. And, yes, people are planning viewing parties and group outings for February 15 and 16. I’m seeing all the Facebook notifications of my friends who are planning to attend these events. I’m halfway jealous. As of right now there isn’t a scheduled viewing party in my area. I’ve heard “talk” of two events that are in the making. I’m just waiting for the details to hit the street. I’m not a comic book fan, but I will definitely go see Black Panther. Check out the latest trailer below.
Beauty: KoKo Lip Gloss. I admit it. I purchased the Sugar Plum Lip Gloss from Khloe K (you know who I’m talking about). She has a full collection of liquid lipsticks and a gloss. I love the packaging and the gloss isn’t bad either. You can check out the full lip collection >>> HERE.
TV Show: 9-1-1 on Fox. I just got into this show this week. I’m already hooked. Angela Bassett is phenomenal as always. The other actors are great as well. I like the premise of the show – how emergency professionals handle 9-1-1 emergency calls. There are intriguing storylines, and I can’t wait to see what unfolds this season.
Email Challenges. I sign up for email challenges all the time. Some are better than others. All of them seemingly lead to a sales pitch for a high-priced course or product. That aside, I signed up for two more this week. The first was on doing better SEO. The other is about email marketing and starts next week. Both of these challenges will help me with two of my business goals – optimize my SEO and build a better email presence. How often do you sign up for email challenges?
Food. Specifically the Jalapeño and Cheddar Hush Puppies from Pressroom. I met a former coworker for lunch on Tuesday. This shareable dish was delicious. They served with raw honey. I was in heaven…so much so that I forgot to get a photo. But, thanks to Instagram I found an image on the restaurant’s account.
